Shards of Crystal
Militia Mines and Ours
Status: Completed – XP Award: 125 XP/character
Kavalar Coppernight, a dwarf prospector, led a couple of dozen volunteers from Hammerfast in a quest for rich veins of ore. Several months ago, they began underground mining operations, as well as a surface excavation for a small keep. Hearing of this development, the Lord Warden Faren Markelhay sent two veteran militia members to investigate. They should have returned two days ago, and the Lord Warden is growing anxious.
The party has been asked to to find out what happened to the two militia members and report on the status of the mining operations of the dwarves. The area is known to be infested with kobolds and travelers avoid the area if possible. The kobolds are bandits but avoid heavily armed travelers, preferring less dangerous prey. The Lord Warden has an outstanding bounty placed on kobolds, 10gps for each tail. Greater bounties have been posted for proof that the kobold leaders have been dealt with.
Cold Death in Coppernight Hold (part 1): The party discovered that kobolds have infested the mine and they have found no trace of the dwarves. However the party did find the bodies of the two militia members that were sent to investigate the mine. The kobolds had killed them and were using their bodies in some kind of grotesque “Punch and Judy” show when the party arrived at the mine. After the party dispatched the kobolds they took time to bury the Lord Warden’s men. (reference)
Cold Death in Coppernight Hold (part 2 & 3): The party explored the kobold’s lair finding several wyrmpriests who were acting as lieutenants for Szartharrax a young white dragon that had taken over the ruins after the dwarves had discovered them. The presence of a dragon in the area explained the increase of the kobold’s attacks, as they were looking to appease the hunger of their “master” for treasure. The party brought back trophies to the Lord Warden as proof that the kobolds had been dispatched. With the death of the kobolds and Szartharrax the Lord Warden is hopeful that bandit activity will decrease, however he is taking steps to increase Fallcrest’s defenses.
